(VIDEOS) Visit Varna Docks for an entertaining afternoon. Eat
lunch at the Passenger Terminal or at Mr Baba, the Ship Restaurant.
Relax on the harbour wall while the fishermen catch their

Dolphinarium |

Visit the Delphinium (Dolphinarium),
which is one of the favourite attractions for children and adults alike.
Performances starring really talented dolphins artists take place daily.

Ethnographic |

The
Ethnographic Museum
is housed in a Revival house from the 19th century. See many kinds of
jewellery, formal national costumes, everyday life items and goods
manufactured in the city.

EUXINOGRAD |
Euxinograd
Palace is a former late 19th-century Bulgarian Royal Summer Palace
and Park on the Black Sea Coast, 8km north of Varna. The Park is
wonderful, the Wine Cellar is superb. |

FANAGORIA |
Over
the Asparuhovo bridge is the
unique active open air museum of “Fanagoria”, the historic
proto-Bulgarian village fortress where one can see thrilling displays of
horsemanship. |

FESTIVALS |
The Bulgarian Folk Festival Calendar -
with name days - religious Saints and sinners - myths and legends and folklore from the remote past which are
still alive today. Huge site with 190 pages. |

Fire Walking |
The Fire Walking Festivals
in honour of Saint Constantine and Saint Helena are completely
authentic. Unlike other fire walkers the Bulgarian girls linger on the
red hot coals with seeming impunity. |

Georgi Velchev |
The
Georgi Velchev Art Museum
has an exposition of paintings and drawings by one of the best masters
of sea scapes in Bulgaria with landscapes from France, Germany and
Bulgaria. |

GOLD FEVER |

Visit the oldest seaside resort in Bulgaria - St Konstantin and Elena
with
mineral baths and the shallow waters of the Black Sea. This is the "posh"
resort as the Grand Varna Hotel will testify. |

Kukeri Festival |
On New Year's Eve, Saint Vassil’s Day, Saint Trifon’s Day and Cur's
Monday after Sirni Zagovezni, special rituals called Mummer's Games take
place with dancing and fabulously coloured masks. |

Madara Rider |

(VIDEO) Visit the rock cliff carving of the Horseman of Madara, the hero god who evolved into Saint George, patron of the
Bulgarian Army. Climb the vertical cliff face via steps to the hill top fortress. |

MARTENITSA |
The
Martenitsa, given as an amulet in spring, when nature gets
“reborn” and starts blossoming again, is a wish for health, strength
and happiness. It is made of red and white yarn to represent male and
female. |

The Devnya Mosaic Museum displays
Roman and Early Byzantine mosaics from the ancient town
of Marcianopolis, the period capital of the Roman Province of Moesia

make popular the species of the Black Sea coast. The museum display is
of the three sciences, Animal, Mineral and Vegetable.

Nesebar Town |

 Visit the impressive archaeological ruins of Ovech Fortress, which is
situated high on impenetrable cliffs above the town of Provadia in a

PLANETARIUM |
The
Nicholas Kopernicus Astronomic
Observatory and Planetarium is located in the Sea
Garden, nearby the main entrance from Slivnitsa. One must see the
Phuko’s pendulum. |

PLISKA |
(VIDEO) Visit the
archaeological ruins of Pliska, the first capital city of
Bulgaria, with its Christian Basilica (Church). This is the Number One
site for lovers of Bulgarian history and ancient ruins.

Puppet Museum |
Visit the
Varna Puppet Theatre and Museum in Varna city centre, close to the Happy Bar and Grill,
with old-fashioned children's "Punch and Judy" style to serious
adult oriented themes.

Pobiti Kamani |
(VIDEO)
Visit
the Stone Forest of Pobiti Kamani, 16km west of Varna. Take the A2 Hemus Highway and exit at the junction for Slanchevo, then

Revival Museum |
The Museum tell much about the cultural, social and political life
during the National Revival period. It has housed the school, the
church, and the community central library since 1862. |

ROMAN BATHS |
(VIDEO) Visit the
Ancient Roman Baths (Rimski Termi)
in "San Stefano" Street.
This is the largest Roman archaeological site in the whole of Bulgaria
and one is allowed to wander at will. |

Rose Festivals |
Visit the Rose Festivals in the first week of June in Kazanlak, Sopot,
Stara Zagora, Karlovo, Kalofer and Plovdiv. Roses are everywhere and the
air is heavy with their heady perfume. |

SEA GARDEN |

Visit the Sea Garden (Morska gradina)
with its Dolphinarium, the Observatory, a Planetarium and a Tower,
Children's Playgrounds, a Rowing Pool with water wheels, and a Zoo.

Shumen Castle |

(VIDEO)
Visit the ancient hilltop fortress of Shumen, with magnificent views over
the town of Shumen and the surrounding hills. The castle is in a
good state of repair and there is an excellent museum.

The BATTLE |

The Battle for Shumen (1444) where the Christian Coalition defeated the Ottoman Turks, with
several hundred participants taking part.
Don't miss the pageant every September at Shumen Castle.

Shumen Plato |

Visit the
Shumen Plateau
(Plato)
and the many Christian rock cliff monasteries. See the
Okoto
(Eye) where pagan sacrifices were made to heathen gods, the source of
Greek fables.

Battle of Varna, 1444, where the defeat of king Vladislav Varnenchik
III, meant 434 long years under severe Ottoman yoke. |

Varna Wine Club |
The aim of the Wine Club Varna is to introduce the admirers of
wine to the history of vine growing and wine producing in Bulgaria, and

Zandana Cave |

Visit the Caves of Zandana (Biserna
Dungeon),
which the Ottoman
Turks used as an underground prison for the Christian Bulgarian patriots.
