     There were over 1500 of these bunkers in their heyday but they were forsaken by the MOD (Ministry of Defence) in 1991 at the end of the Cold War and now only a handful remain.

This bunker was built in 1960, like the proverbial brick outhouse, in one massive piece that will float in the ground like some underground submarine to ride out the effects of a nuclear bomb blast, or a major earthquake. They don't make them like this anymore. This ex-RAF bunker has the added thrill of still being a reference point for low-flying RAF jet fighters.

What am I actually buying?

You are buying a freehold piece of moor land, 15m x 20m, currently classified as "of no use", therefore there are no rates to pay. It just so happens that this land is over the top of a Cold War Bunker that officially does not exist so it does not have an address. The BT address for the working telephone is Sedburgh in Cumbria. The quarterly phone bill is the only bill we have to pay. You can not officially live here. We use the bunker at weekends or on nice days through the week. The likelihood of getting planning permission to build a house here is remote, but one could always try, after you have bought it. There was a building on this land, now demolished and M.O.D. personnel have been sleeping in this place for 50 years. You will be given full instructions on how to operate the multitude of survival equipment that comes with this purchase, from the Generator, Geiger counters, dosimeters and chargers, anti-radiation suits, gas masks, blast doors, fire drills, CCTV cameras, SW radio transmitters,  aircraft radio scanners,  telescopes, toilet procedure, security procedures, and there is a year's supply of food here with alternative heating and cooking facilities that need explaining.
