Bob Laycock has a birthday and goes in to hospital.

It's windy, with occasional showers and otherwise
sunny here.
Went to see the surgeon today and he
wanted to put me straight into hospital but that was just to help with
the pain.
Until Monday (when I will go in) for
various tests & then an operation on Wednesday, to take the whole
prosthetic out. This will involve slicing open the femur to get the
prosthetic out, which is currently glued in there.
The reason for all the pain and being
woken up by it, when I move in my sleep, is that there is a crack in my
pelvis and the "cap" of the prosthetic is being forced into it, making
it worse.
On Wednesday he will try to
put a "spacer" in, which will keep my leg more or less attached ( but
not load bearing ). He will not attempt to fix a new prosthetic for some
weeks. As this is the last chance, they will only try to fix it after
weeks of no sign of bugs in there. There is a 50% chance of
success. Let's hope the heart can take it as the grafts are well past
their warranty ! So, after Monday, I'll be off
station for some time.
I'll try and get Mary to send news
from time to time. Mary, needless to say, is panicking and we'll have to
tell the lads when they come to dinner tomorrow. (Tristam is worse than
Mary when I go into hospital.) The Three Peaks is definitely, I'm
afraid, off the agenda for this year.

dozens already on the uTube site.
Kiaora, Ged, Thanks for the video. Very nice. I'm almost envious of the
lads up
there. I said to Jack that there will be folk tales in time about the
laughter heard
from the ghosts of Twistleton Hall ! thanks again,
Bob Laycock

Hi Ged, Sandra, and Everyone. Thanks for that
mate...a wonderful tribute to a great little guy, with a huge heart, and
a winning, cheeky smile.....he will be sorely missed, but never
forgotten.
Sorry not to have been there, but we had to rush Jan back into
hospital again, and I only got her back home again on Thurs night. Since
she was diagnosed with cancer 4 months ago, the poor lass has been
admitted 12 times. She has been very ill, having been hit with one
infection after another...on top of the cancer that is.
However she is a strong and
positive person, and, having had 2 sessions of chemo so far, there are
signs that the tumours are shrinking...thank God. We know there is a
long way to go, but we keep positive. Take care everyone...hope to meet
up soon.
Best wishes Phil & Jan
Kendall

Hello Ged, Just found you while looking on a detector
site, WOW, spun off into the past with old shots of The BRPC. I
don't think you'll remember me my name is Jim Bolton I was from
Blackpool in those days and came up with Trevor Rodgers which is
why I'm writing this to update your info page. Trevor Rodgers died
of a heart attack about ten years back not killed on a motor
cycle, however he did have a very bad crash just outside of
Melling losing his toes which were trapped between the foot peg
and gear leaver, he wrote off a Standard four door saloon with his
right leg, the driver had to climb out of the nsr door the car was
that bad, I maybe wrong but one of the old team was on the back of
his Bonneville at the time and I think did a makeshift tourniquet
with the belt off his Barbour suit. Big Eddy also known to
us at the time as BOO BOO from the Yogi Bear cartoon strip, I
remember doing on a small dig on Storrs, we had been trying to
move a very large rock which was partly down a shallow shake hole,
we had been at it a couple of days, job solved when Eddy turned up
and just cuddled it for a minute while he took hold then lifted it
out on his own. I would have been with three other lads from
Blackpool one was Dennis Moorhouse and the other Eddy Matley also
my cousin Big Les. OK Ged I wont go on and on but just wanted to
say "hello" and to thank everyone involved for building such a
grand album. If you see Algy (Philip Wells) say that were in
touch, and yet another thing we have in common, for the last 26
years I've been living in Cowgill just below your old Observer
Corps bunker, how about that? Bye for now Ged, Jim Bolton.

HI Jed, Sorry couldn't make it last Wednesday night, however while
the memory is still working I think you knocked your knee cap off
riding an Ariel Arrow or was it a Leader?. Big Jack had Big
Nortons and Trevor Rodgers a Bonneville while Trevs mate Charlie
rode a Goldstar but that would have been much later, Mike Myers
and his sister could have had AJS or Matchless 350s possibly. Hope
the memories are right but could be early onset fading.
Went over to Clapham St Market on Sat had a brew in the CRO
building with Jenny Holmes and Pete Allwright, good day out.
OK Jed let me know if my notes ring a bell or not and don't forget
to mention me to Algy. All the best Jim Bolton G6LZZ (my call sign)

"'Climber@ Perry zoomed up the wall into the alcove and rigged a 10'
ladder for the less agile amongst us. 'Miner' Eddie took the dig in hand
putting 'Thin' Dave up top in the mud and
'Scribe' Bill on the lumpy ground with pick and lump hammer. 'Hairy'
Tone and 'Gooner' Martin scavenged for the
debris with buckets and threw it down into the stream way where it
washed down to the sump. I set up shop on a small ledge and made the
coffee ...
